Phishing is a form of Internet fraud in which fraudsters attempt to steal personal and confidential information from victims. Typically, this is done through a fake email that pretends to come from a trusted source such as a bank, online retailer or social network. The email asks the recipient to click on a link that leads to a fake website that looks very similar to the real website. The victim’s personal data is then entered on this website and stolen by the fraudsters.
Phishing attacks are often carried out on a large scale and can cause enormous damage by stealing personal and financial information from victims. It is important to be careful and ignore or report suspicious emails and links to protect yourself from phishing attacks. Companies and organizations can also take steps to protect their customers and employees by providing training and safeguards against phishing attacks.
