Resilience is a term used in psychology to describe a person’s ability to cope with difficult life situations and emerge stronger from them. A person with a high level of resilience is able to overcome crises, challenges or changes in life and also use setbacks as an opportunity for further development.
Resilience is seen as a combination of personal characteristics, skills and resources as well as external support factors. These include, for example, the ability to self-reflect, positive self-perception, social support, good coping strategies and a stable environment.
Resilience can be trained and strengthened, for example through targeted stress management, mindfulness training or cognitive restructuring. Measures that promote resilience are particularly important in the prevention and treatment of mental disorders.
Resilience is an important concept in psychology, but also in other areas such as education, social work and organizational development.
